Why do hare krishnas chant

Young or old, anyone can chant—from any race, any religion, or any country of the world. Chanting Hare Krishna brings relief from all miseries. Chanting Hare Krishna is easy. When the best way is also the easiest, why make life hard for yourself?

Chanting Hare Krishna invokes spiritual peace—for you and for those around you. When you chant Hare Krishna, Krishna Himself becomes pleased. When you chant Hare Krishna, Krishna dances on your tongue.

Chanting Hare Krishna frees you from the reactions of all past karma. The more you chant Hare Krishna, the better it gets. As far as possible, chanting from the lips of non-devotees should be avoided.

Milk touched by the lips of a serpent has poisonous effects. The word Hara is the form of addressing the energy of the Lord, and the words Krishna and Rama are forms of addressing the Lord Himself. The supreme pleasure energy of the Lord helps us to reach the Lord. The material energy, called maya, is also one of the multi-energies of the Lord.

And we, the living entities, are also the energy — marginal energy — of the Lord. The living entities are described as superior to material energy. When the superior energy is in contact with the inferior energy, an incompatible situation arises; but when the superior marginal energy is in contact with the superior energy, called Hara, the living entity is established in his happy, normal condition.

These three words, namely Hare, Krishna and Rama, are the transcendental seeds of the maha-mantra. The chanting is a spiritual call for the Lord and His internal energy, Hara, to give protection to the conditioned soul.

This chanting is exactly like the genuine cry of a child for its mother. Mother Hara helps the devotee achieve the grace of the supreme father, Hari or Krishna, and the Lord reveals Himself to the devotee who chants this mantra sincerely. No other means of spiritual realization, therefore, is as effective in this age as chanting the maha-mantra:. The Hare Krishna mantra is chanted as a petition to God, and its meaning can be interpreted as "Oh Lord, oh energy of the Lord, please engage me in your service.

According to the Vedas , one of the most effective means of achieving self-realization and union with the Divine is through chanting. Chanting is an ancient spiritual practice, in which rhythmical repetitions of sacred words or phrases serve to deepen concentration and devotion. Bhakti Yoga uses chanting as a means of surrendering to supreme or universal consciousness, and the Hare Krishna mantra in particular is believed to awaken practitioners to their connection with this divine energy.

The Hare Krishna mantra is ancient in its origins, and has been upheld by great sages and Vedic scriptures for thousands of years. Repetition of these sacred words is said to generate a transcendental vibration, surpassing the stages of physical senses, mind and intelligence to connect the practitioner with Krishna consciousness. This is a subtle state of awareness, in which complete connection and harmony with the Divine frees the self from the illusion of separateness. As such, it is an effective means of shedding ego and experiencing bliss.

Devotees of Krishna perform japa recitation with the Hare Krishna mantra, using prayer beads known as mala to count the number of repetitions. In this dark age of Kali, sincere devotees should give up all other shelters and take exclusive shelter of the Holy Name of Lord Hari. One who chants the Holy Name of the Supreme Lord with unflinching faith is not affected by the reverses of Kali Yuga and his heart stays eternally pure. One who doubts this never attains any good fortune.

Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu had explained :. Every Name of Lord Vishnu is superior to all the Vedas. O devotees! Incessantly chant this Holy name Hare Krishna Mahamantra. Chanting these sixteen Holy Names ensures that all spiritual obligations are satisfied. One who chants them is bestowed with all perfections in spiritual life.

The benefits of chanting the Hare Krishna Mahamantra are unlimited. This statement is of utmost value. And what is the need of so many holy sites of pilgrimage?

The scriptures state that public welfare works, no matter how numerous or extensive, are after all mundane activities. The Holy Name of Lord Hari easily grants one liberation from this material world. Fruitive activities are trivial when compared to the Holy Name of the Lord.

If you are searching for liberation then incessantly chant the holy name of Govinda. Even an outcast on whose tongue appears Your holy name is worshipable! Persons who chant the holy name of Your Lordship must have performed severe austerities, fire sacrifices and achieved all the good manners of the Aryans.

To chant Your holy name, they must have bathed at holy sites of pilgrimage, studied all the Vedic scriptures and fulfilled everything needed. Lord Krishna has invested all of His potencies within His holy name.
